Division 3 Vacancy
The Director for Division 3 has resigned, and there is a Director position open to fill the rest of the term.
Division 3 represents Irrigon on the Board of Directors.
The position will be appointed by the Board of Directors at its September meeting. The term is through the end of 2022. There will be an election in November to fill the new 3-year term.
Those interested in the position should contact the district office by calling 541-922-3814 or emailing firstname.lastname@example.org.
West Extension Irrigation District will be applying the aquatic herbicide “Argos” (liquid chelated copper) in its main canal over 3 days::
Tuesday July 26, 2022 Upper Canal (Phase 1 Inlet (East of Power Line Road) to Division)
Wednesday July 27, 2022 Middle Canal (Division to I-84)
Thursday July 28, 2022 Boardman Canal (siphon to end)
Treatments will start at approximately 6 am and last for 6 hours. Argos targets algae and is applied at the rate of 1 ppm for a 6 hour set. This low rate of application means there are no holding restrictions on the water. This compares to the Copper Sulfate Crystals which are applied at a 5-6 ppm rate and have lengthy holding time.
The Relocation Canal will be treated with Copper Sulfate Crystals on Wednesday, July 27. There will be a holding time of 7 hours. The Division Street Pump Station will be down during the treatment, then turned back on in the afternoon.
Please call the office with any questions at 541-922-3814.
UPDATE 7/23/22 9:45 am — The pump came back on line about 8:00 pm last night! Yay! Thanks everyone who worked so hard on this, and thanks patrons for being patient and understanding. Please irrigate within your allotment so everyone can get the water they need to catch up.
UPDATE 7/22/22 3:40 pm — The pump will be ready to pick up in Boardman about 5 tonight. Crews have agreed to work late to get it installed. The electrician has already been called and will also be there tonight. if all goes well the pump will be installed and running late tonight. GREAT THANKS to Kerns Brothers for making our pump a priority, and to Rock Electric for coming out after hours, and to Alan and Daniel (WEID crew) for working late. Text messages have been sent out to everyone on this system that we have numbers for. Any updates after this time will be sent out via text. if you are on the Division St. pump and haven’t received any texts, then we don’t have any numbers for you. Please call the office and give us current contact information so you can be added.
UPDATE 7/21/22 4:45 pm — The pump was taken to Kerns Brothers in Boardman yesterday to be rewired and repaired. The current status is that the pump has been pressure washed and rewired. It still needs to be baked and tested. They have quite a few pumps they are working on right now, and I am sure we all feel the same way: “It’s hot and we need our water!” We just have to wait our turn. We are already in line with the electrician, who will need to complete his rewiring of the station with the install. It’s unfortunate that this has happened when it is so hot. Thankfully we work with great vendors (Kerns Brothers and Rock Electric) who are doing their best to get the pump back as soon as possible.
7/20/22 — The Division Street Pump Station in South Irrigon went down yesterday (Tuesday, 7/19) afternoon. There is a problem with the wiring. The electrician has been called and the pump station will be turned on as soon as the repair is made.
Monday, 07/11/2022, there was a break in the Miller Road line, just north of Kunze Lane. Crews have been working on the repair throughout the week. Twice, the repair failed. A contractor was called in Friday afternoon. The contractor and WEID crews were onsite this morning. Once the repair is complete, the glue will have to cure before the pump station can be turned back on.
We appreciate your patience.
UPDATE July 16, 2022 9:30 am
Power was restored and the pumps came back on at 3:45 am this morning. Water is back in the canal and making its way towards Boardman. Crews will start the main canal pump stations when water is available.

The Phase 1 Pump Station is down due to a fire near the Crossroads Truck Stop. The fire has burned a power pole, which has affected the power at the pump station. The pumps went off at 5:13 pm.

BOR operators are on site and waiting for Pacific Power. It is forecasted to take at least 4 more hours to replace the pole. UPDATE: PP&L say until midnight.
WEID crews are turning the district pump stations on the main canal OFF until morning, or water is restored, whichever is later.
WEID has an opening for an Irrigation System Operator (Ditchrider). Starting wage is $19.50 – $23.00 per hour DOE. Please see the Resources tab for information and application. Position open until filled. Or click here for more information:
