mainline leak puts system down

May 16, 2019

This morning, a leak developed on the mainline that delivers water to the Oregon Street and Columbia Lane pump stations.  The leak appears to be under the asphalt at the intersection of Oregon Street and West Fourth St.  We have marked that intersection with safety cones and it will be “one lane” for now and may actually be closed when we do the repair.

The line is being drained and we will start digging on Friday to see what the problem is.  We anticipate needing to order parts and/or bring in a welder.  Wise Construction and Contracting will be doing this work for us.

The pump stations will be off until the repair is complete, which may be the middle of next week.  We are fortunate to have a weather pattern that will help us all out.  These types of repairs could run into problems if specialty parts need to be ordered.

This is a good time for you to assure that your own irrigation valve is working.  Remember that the first valve off the District’s mainline is for District use only.  You should have your own valve for your use to turn your system on and off.  If you don’t, you have time now to install that valve.

relocation canal update

May 16, 2019

We are still working on the repair (now rebuild) to the end of the Relocation Canal that delivers water to south Irrigon and the Division Street Pump Station.  The first repair did not hold, so we brought in Wise Excavation and Contracting to rebuild the structure.  We’ve had good luck keeping the canal at a fairly consistent level, so water wasn’t bypassing the pump station – until a power bump on Tuesday evening and the rain.  That created some havoc for the contractor as they had to deal with the water as well as the repair.

With this weather pattern, we’d like to leave the station off until the repair is complete, which would be the middle of next week.

relocation canal update

April 25, 2019.

The damage was more extensive than originally thought. Crews have been working overtime since the washout occurred. There was one concrete pour yesterday, and there will be another one today. That concrete has to cure before we can make the final pour.

Originally, we had hoped to put a coffer in the canal and deliver water for one day to RL-1 and RL-2 (Division St. Pump Station). However, we cannot risk that water getting by and damaging the work we are doing, so we will not be attempting this.

Our new target for delivering water down the Relocation Canal is Tuesday, April 30.

Relocation canal down

Friday morning the end of the relocation canal was overtopped and washed out.  The relocation canal was shut down.  Landowners taking water from the Division Street pump station, RL-1 and RL-3 have been shut off.  Crews are working on the repair.  We anticipate 7-10 days on the repair.  We will update on this site.
