WEID has rain gauges available to landowners in order to monitor your water use. This will help you use only the water that your crop (lawn, pasture, corn, etc.) needs. The gauges are available at no charge to you.
You will find the last 7 days of water needed for your crop and the forecast for the next week. Needs will change as the season progresses. Use of your rain gauge will assure you are not putting on too much or too little water for the needs of your crop. Thanks to IRZ Consulting for this helpful service. They are located in Hermiston.
Most of Irrigon has water now (Friday, 1:00 p.m.). Crews have been chasing leaks, broken valves and open drain valves since Wednesday when the system was fired up. There are still a few landowners who don’t have water yet, but don’t despair, help is on the way!
Crews are now moving on to the pump stations on the main canal. As they can’t be everywhere all at once, please have patience as they move from one pump station to the next.
If you have any questions or don’t have water and your neighbors do, call the office at 541-922-3814 for assistance.
Please note: The Ditchrider “On Call/Emergency” phone number is for after hours emergencies. If you need to order water, call the Water Order Line at 541-922-9372. If you need to speak with someone at the office and it is after hours, please leave a message and we will return it as soon as we are back in the office. Remember: the Emergency number is just for that, emergencies: 541-314-0005.
You may have seen WEID crews around town closing drain valves in preparation for staring the Irrigon Pump Station tomorrow, April 1. The system will take most of the day to fill. Booster stations will be turned on as needed after that.
Pump stations in the rest of the district will be turned on as we can go down the canal. We can’t turn them all on at the same time (we can’t be everywhere at the same time!). Our plan is to have everyone turned on by the weekend.
We will begin on the same schedule as last year. We will be getting updated schedules out in the next few weeks. If you have any schedule changes you would like, please call the office and we may be able to make the change. However, the goal is always for water economics, especially in this dry year.
As you may remember, the board changed the due dates of the annual charges from April 15 and July 15 to April 1 and July 1 several years ago.
If your account is current (2014 is paid in full), you are eligible for 6-month or 12-month payment arrangements with no finance charges. Arrangements must be made in writing, so contact the office if you are interested. Payments are generally due by the 25th of the month.
6-month plans are available for all eligible water users. 12-month plans are available for those on a fixed income (retirement, disability, etc.)
Note: 6-month plans are March – August, so both the first payment and the April payment must be paid by April 25th.
Water start-up is quickly approaching. Make sure your valves are closed, screens are in place and your system is ready.
Main Canal: Friday, March 13 we will begin flushing the upper canal. Water to Boardman sometime between Saturday and Monday, weather and need determining the actual day.
Irrigon Pressure Systems: On target for April 6.
As expected, it is a process to get water from one end of the district to the other. We like to assume that everything will go as planned, but sometimes unexpected things rear their ugly head at the worst times. Please have patience with our crews as we work to get water to everyone.
