CANAL TREATMENT SCHEDULED

WEID will apply the aquatic herbicide Magnacide H© to its main canal on Wednesday, July 7 and Thursday, July 9.  The active ingredient is Acrolein.  Pond weed and algae are the targeted weeds in the canal.  The entire canal will be treated with this herbicide from Ramp Weir 2 (west of Powerline Road) to the end spill in Boardman.

The treatment schedule is as follows:

Upper Canal: Wednesday, July 7th: Ramp Weir 2 to the I-84 Siphon. Waters are considered “treated” from 6 am Wednesday to 3 am Thursday.

Boardman Canal: Thursday, July 8th: I-84 Siphon to end spill. Waters are considered “treated” from 6 am to 9 pm Thursday.

If you have any questions please call the office at 541-922-3814.

BLUE WATER IN CANAL

WEID is doing a dye study in our main canal today and tomorrow (Tuesday and Wednesday, July 6-7). We are doing the upper canal today and the Boardman canal on Wednesday. This is for a Time of Travel Study for our NPDES Permit. It has to be done once every 5 years.

The water is colored with blue dye that is for agricultural purposes. It is non-toxic and won’t harm plants or animals.

If you have any questions, please call Lisa at the office at 541-922-3814.

CANAL TREATMENT SCHEDULED

West Extension Irrigation District will be applying the aquatic herbicide “Argos” (liquid chelated copper) in its main canal over 2 days:

Wednesday, June 23, 2021 (morning)                 Upper Canal (Phase 1 Inlet east of Power Line Road to Division)

Wednesday, June 23, 2021 (afternoon)               Middle Canal (Division to I-84)

Thursday, June 24, 2021  (morning)                    Boardman Canal (siphon to end)

Treatments will start at approximately 6 am and last for 6 hours.

Argos targets algae and is applied at the rate of 1 ppm for a 6 hour set.  This low rate of application means there are no holding restrictions on the water.  This compares to the Copper Sulfate Crystals which is applied at a 5-6 ppm rate and have lengthy holding time.

Please call the office with any questions at 541-922-3814.

CANAL OUTAGE

June 15, 2021 3:55 pm.

There is a power outage at the Phase 1 Pumping Plant that supplies water to the main canal. PP&L is on site trying to identify the problem. The pump station is completely off.

7:15 pm. A power pole had caught fire at the Phase 1 Pumping Plant in Umatilla. PP&L crews are working on replacing the pole and reinstating the power to the pumps. We expect water back up around midnight.

In the meantime, the District pump stations in Umatilla have been shut off as well as the Division pump station in Irrigon. We will shut the Boardman pump stations off at 9 pm this evening. Water is dropping in the main canal and will continue throughout the night.

Check Wed AM for an update.

June 16, 2021 8:15 am.

Power was restored to the Phase 1 Pumping Plant just after 11:00 pm last night. Pumps were turned on shortly after that.

The canal is continuing to fill up this morning. Water is just to Patterson Ferry. The canal should be fully restored by tonight.

All pump stations on the main canal will remain off today. The Relocation Canal will stay closed until this afternoon.

Make sure to contact the Water Order Line at 541-922-9372 to coordinate starting back up.

MAKE SURE TO CHECK YOUR SCREENS AND FILTERS FOR WEEDS AND DEBRIS AS THE RESTART WILL BREAK THESE LOOSE.

This does not affect the Irrigon Pressurized System.

If you have any questions, please call the office at 541-922-3814.
